How to fix a blurry image, and when you cannot
Three kinds of blur, one of which can be fixed. How to tell them apart in ten seconds, what sharpening does and does not do, and the honest answer about upscaling.

Sharpen it in the Editor
- Open the image and press Ctrl+1 to see it at 100 per cent. Judge only at this zoom; every other zoom lies.
- Choose Filter, Enhance, Sharpen. It arrives as a filter layer. Set Amount low, 20 to 40, and look at an edge. Stop before halos appear.
- For compression damage, add Filter, Enhance, Noise at a small amount as well. Fine noise breaks up the blocks and reads as texture rather than damage.
- Export as PNG, or JPG at 90 per cent or higher. Every JPG save loses a little more.
Sharpen raises contrast along edges. It makes an image look crisper; it does not add detail that was not captured. Use it once, at the output size, as the last step.
About making the resolution higher
Image, Image size… can set a bigger pixel size, and the result is a bigger blurry image. Resampling averages neighbouring pixels to fill the gaps; no new information appears. That is true of every upscaler, including AI ones, which guess plausible detail rather than recover real detail. Can I unblur a photo?
Slight softness, yes, with sharpening. Motion blur, missed focus and low pixel counts, no; the detail was never recorded. Ask for the original file.
Does Voidcanvas have an AI upscaler?
No. Its AI tools select subjects, remove backgrounds and objects, and extend the canvas with AI fill; none of them upscales. Upscaling makes an image larger, not sharper, so the guide says so rather than offering a button that pretends otherwise.
