Export for screens: PNG, JPG and WebP
Pick the right file type and size for web and social, keep or drop transparency, and copy an image straight to your clipboard.

Exporting turns your layered design into one image file you can post, send or put on a website. The design itself stays on your device, editable, so you can export as many times as you like. Getting the type and size right keeps files sharp and small.
Export in four steps
- Choose File, Export as… or press Ctrl+E (Cmd+E on a Mac).
- Under File type, pick PNG, JPG, WebP or PDF.
- Under Size, pick a scale. Each button shows the pixel size you will get.
- Click Download, or Copy image to put it on your clipboard.
The file is named after your design. Rename the design first if you want a better file name.
Which file type

For JPG, WebP and PDF a Quality slider appears, from 40 to 100 percent, starting at 92. Lower numbers make smaller files with more blocky artefacts, most visible around text and flat colour. Between 80 and 92 is a sensible range for photos. PNG has no quality slider because it is lossless.
Which size
The size buttons are 0.5×, 1×, 2× and 3×, each labelled with the result in pixels. Only scales that keep the longest side at 8192 pixels or less are offered, so large designs show fewer buttons.
- 1× gives exactly your design size. Use it when you designed at the platform's size, such as 1080 x 1350 for an Instagram post.
- 2× is for sharp screens and websites that show images at half their pixel size.
- 0.5× makes a quick preview to send for comment.
Text, shapes and layer styles are drawn fresh at the export size, so they stay crisp at 2× and 3×. Photos cannot gain detail they never had: scaling a small photo up makes it bigger, not sharper. More in Image resolution explained.
Transparency
- If your design has no background colour, PNG and WebP keep the empty areas transparent.
- If your design has a background colour, PNG and WebP show a checkbox, Leave out the background colour. Tick it to export the layers on a transparent background.
- JPG cannot be transparent. Empty areas become white.
Copy to the clipboard
Copy image always copies a PNG at the size you picked. You will see "Copied. Paste it anywhere." Paste it into a chat, a document or another app. Some browsers limit clipboard access; if copying fails, use Download.
Boards and editable files
- With boards, choose which to export under Boards to export (this board, all, or a range). Several boards download as a zip with one file per board, at the size you pick, optionally numbered in board order.
- Save editable file (.void.png, previews as your design, keeps layers) makes a PNG that also carries your full project. Send it to someone who uses Voidcanvas, or keep it as a backup.
Other places to export
- On the start screen, the … menu on a recent design has Export PNG, which downloads it at full size without opening it.
- On a phone, tap Share at the top. Share PNG hands the file to your phone's share sheet where it can, otherwise Save PNG downloads it. JPG and PDF sit beside it, with 1x and 2x sizes, and More options opens the full Export dialog.
Good to know
- Each Download also saves an automatic restore point called "Exported" in Version history.
- If export fails, you will see "Export failed. Try a smaller size." Pick a smaller scale; very large images can exceed what the browser can draw.
- Voidcanvas does not export SVG of a whole design. A single path can be exported with Layer, Path, Export path as SVG….
